NOMINATED! One of three finalists for CNY Book of the Year Award!
Now in its 2nd printing!
For "A Taste of Upstate New York: The People and the Stories Behind 40 Food Favorites" it took me a year to eat my way across Upstate New York seeking out the stories of so many iconic foods that we have come to love including potato chips (Saratoga), half-moon cookies (Utica), chicken wings (Buffalo), spiedies (Binghamton), Grandma Brown's Home Baked Beans, Jell-O, Shredded Wheat, the ice cream sundae, the birthplace of the hamburger, the Victorian Peppermint Pigs and many more!
The stories behind these food products are fascinating and you will meet the people at the center of Upstate's food world including: Buffalo's "Charlie the Butcher," Fly Creek's "Cider Mill Bill," "The Grape Pie Queen of Naples, NY," the "Catskill's Candy Cane King" and many more. Foodies, history buffs and travel fans will enjoy this delicious all-you-can- eat buffet from the Hudson Valley to the High Peaks to the Finger lakes and beyond!
Wear your food proudly!
Our new Upstate New York Foods T-shirts are here!
The front reads: "I'm in the mood for a little poutine tonight. How about you?" Of course all true Upstaters will know immediately that this sly little comment refers to one of our great comfort foods, poutine! French fries, brown gravy and cheese curds. Yummy!
The back is a list of foods that EVERY person who calls Upstate New York home loves!

"We at Gomez Mill
House experienced a wonderful, magical, humorous and heartfelt
presentation of some extraordinary and captivating stories today. Thanks
to Chuck D'Imperio for his talents, skills, and his passion and respect
for Upstate NY. He knows his stuff and loves sharing it with
others. Great time had by all who attended. Chuck is one of the best
speaker/storytellers this side of the Niagara River."

My name is CHUCK D'IMPERIO and I LOVE Upstate New York! I am a longtime award-winning radio broadcaster (more than 25 years on the air!), an inductee into the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame as "New York's Broadcaster of the Year, 2000," a newspaper columnist and a writer of books about my beloved Upstate New York!
I also do a great deal of public speaking around the state talking about my research and my books. The talks (more than 40 a year!) are lively and always a lot of fun!
I hope you will take a look at this website and my books and perhaps contact me about coming to your group, historical society, book fair, classroom or library so I may entertain your organization!
I write about famous people who are buried in Upstate New York, folk heroes who walked our pathways, historic communities both big and small, legendary New Yorkers and life in general in this beautiful area we call Upstate New York!
My schedule usually fills up quickly so I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks & remember:

NOW BOOKING FOR 2017-18
AS OF 2017, I HAVE NOW SPOKEN TO MY 50th NEW YORK STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY! WHAT A FUN TRIP THIS HAS BEEN (SO FAR!)......
One of my greatest honors! In 2011 I was the recipient of the New York State Daughters of the American Revolution Motion Picture, Radio and Television Award for....
"his multiplicity of accomplishments: an eminent Upstate New York Historian, an award-winning broadcaster, a celebrated book author and a popular newspaper columnist."
I received this honor (it was a surprise) at the NYS DAR convention in Syracuse, where I was the keynote speaker. Previous winners include Lesley Stahl (60 Minutes), Antiques Road Show (PBS), Oliver Stone (director of World Trade Center movie) and Daniel Giat (screenwriter of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee), and others.
